Shirley Elaine Ninneman
Shirley Elaine Ninneman, 86, formerly of Wausau, peacefully entered into eternal life on January 21, 2012 at River Oaks, 11340 Cedarburg Rd., Mequon, Wisconsin where she was a resident.
Shirley was born on October 29, 1925 in Wausau, Wisconsin to the late Frederick and Lydia (Krohn) Poeske. Shirley married Marvin E. Ninneman on June 8th, 1946 upon his return from the US Navy. He preceded her in death in June 1970.
Shirley was an active and long-time member of The VFW Burns Post 388 Ladies Auxiliary in Wausau where she participated in numerous programs including citizen education and patriotic community events. She was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8122 where she worked raising funds for educational projects especially for Lutheran High Schools. Shirley was an active volunteer in the community including reading to kindergarten children in a Wausau Public School reading program. In addition, she loved animals, and loved to travel, sew, garden, golf and write personal letters. Shirley was a long-time member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and was a retired employee of James River.
Survivors include one daughter, Ian Marie Baker-Johnson, Glendale, WI, two grandchildren, Matthew Baker (Becky Baker), Colorado Springs, CO and Scott Baker (Laura Baker) Minneapolis, MN; three great-grandchildren, Alia Grace and Stephen Matthew Baker, Colorado Springs and Emma Natalie Baker, Minneapolis; one brother, Frederick (Patricia) Poeske Wausau, one sister Barbara (Gerald) Borchardt Edgar; many cousins, nieces, nephews and other dear friends and relatives. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Utecht and Leatrice Wenzel.
Funeral services will be at Noon Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral home. The Rev. Joy Nelson Jeffers will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
The family suggests memorials be made in Shirley's name to your local Humane Society or to the National Historic Soldier's Home Chapel Restoration Project adjacent to the Wood Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI.

Mom and Grandma was a very loving and caring person who always gave of her time, her resources and her many talents. She will forever be remembered for the unconditional love she gave her family, for her kindness and her generosity. She will live in our hearts forever and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express special thanks to all who prayed for her and helped care for her, especially to the wonderful staff at River Oaks and Vitas.
