Shirley Griesmer

Shirley Jean Griesmer, 85, Wausau, died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Kennedy Park, Schofield with family by her side. Shirley was born Oct 17, 1926 in Wausau, daughter of the late David and Ethel (Fox) Landsman. Shirley married George J Frankel on June 22, 1948, in Chicago Illinois. They later divorced. She married Clarence Griesmer on September 30, 1983 in Wausau, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2000. Shirley grew up in Wausau and graduated from Wausau High. She attended UW-Madison, studying Occupational Therapy. After her marriage to George, she moved to Chicago. In 1971, Shirley moved back to Wausau, and started working for Colonial Manor Nursing Home. In 1988, she took a job with the Visiting Nurses Association, which later became Aspirus VNA, and worked there for 22 years, until February of 2010. Shirley spent her life caring for others: while in her 70's, she took a second job working for another home health agency. Shirley was never old - she took care of old people. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerome, granddaughter Melissa Frankel and husband Clarence. Survivors include her children, Mark Frankel, Portland, OR, Paula (Bill) Wieczorek, Chicago IL, Lori (Robert) Bedrio, Gurnee IL, Gary (Vicky) Frankel, Elk Grove Village IL, and Michael (Jean) Frankel, Wausau; her stepchildren George (Carol) Griesmer, Edgar, Don (Catherine) Griesmer, Rothschild, Mary (Michael) Fahey, Rothschild, John (Linda) Griesmer, Mosinee, and Bob (Jean) Griesmer, Edgar; he sister-in-law, Carol Ogan, Du Page, IL; grandchildren Sarah Frankel, Eric Wieczorek, Keith (Colleen) Wieczorek, Shawn Levander, Samantha Bedrio, Jocelyn and David Frankel, Chase and Alexandra Frankel, Carrie (Chad) Doll, Lori Butt, Roger (Melanie) Griesmer, Rhonda Bartelt, Debra (Theodore) Halbakken, Linda (Nyle) Neta, Joseph (Jennifer) Fahey, Mark (Erin) Fahey, Kelly (Bryan) Kloos, Russell, Jacob and Leah Griesmer, Alex and Stephanie Heinecke, Colin, Adam, Karissa, Logan, Shalynn and Kaden Griesmer, and great-grandchildren Sabrina and Savannah Wieczorek, Carter Kearns, Delanie Wieczorek, Tyler and Kylie Ruppel, Ashley Doll, Kennedy Butt, Josef and Rylee Griesmer, Annabeth Bartelt, Emily, Stephen, Hannah, Isaac and William Halbakken, Simon, Orin, Felix and Dorothy Neta, Abigail and Charles Fahey, Esequiel Barraza, Ellie Fahey, Crystal and Cameron Kloos. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 1 pm at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home at 1302 Sixth St, Wausau. Interment will be at the Wausau Hebrew Cemetery, Grand Avenue, Wausau at a later date. Friends may call from 10 am until the time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
