Sherry Kay Heckendorf

Sherry K. Heckendorf, 49, 4504 Evergreen Road, Wausau, died Friday, March 21, 2003, at her home. Sherry was born October 24, 1953, in Wausau, daughter of Veryl (Hollinger) Nowak, Wausau and the late Alfred Nowak. She married Eugene Heckendorf on May 7, 1977, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. He survives. Sherry was a registered nurse for Colonial Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau and formerly at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. She also provided loving daycare for her two granddaughters, Megan and Hannah. Her home with Eugene and the animals they took care of were among her favorite things in this world. Stock car racing, knitting and crocheting were also a source of joy for her. Sherry was an organ donor giving hope to many families. Besides her husband, Eugene Heckendorf, Wausau and her mother, Veryl Nowak, Wausau, survivors include, one son, Kurt Heckendorf, St. Paul, Minnesota; one daughter, Heidi (Ross) Wolfe, Wausau; two grandchildren, Megan and Hannah Wolfe; one brother, Lyle (Marcy) Nowak, Wausau. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Wausau. Rev. Gregory Michel will officiate. Burial will be in Mechanic's Ridge Cemetery, town of Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a college fund is being established for Sherry's grandchildren.
