Sharon "Shisha" Lee Meyer (Litzer), age 78, Wausau, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Gardenside Crossing, North Central Health Care Facility, Wausau. Her final days and hours were spent surrounded by her loving family and friends. Sharon had suffered through many years of Alzheimer's disease.
Sharon was born on June 2, 1937 in Wausau to Thomas Litzer Jr. and Marion (Smith) Litzer. She graduated from Wausau High in 1955. Sharon married the love of her life Edward "Sweepy" Meyer on November 10, 1956. She was employed by the Wausau Area Catholic School System at Saint Michael's School for over 30 years. Sharon started out as volunteer at the library at Saint Michael's. The librarian position eventually became a paid position. Working with the children in the library became her passion and it brought her much pride and joy. Sharon touched many lives and she was very enthusiastic about her work. Sharon had puppets and props for every book that she read to the children. She also enjoyed making bulletin boards for all occasions. She will forever be remembered for her love of Dr. Seuss and Mother Goose and many other children's authors. She retired in 2008.
Sharon was a woman with great religious faith and she was very involved with many church and school activities. Sharon did volunteer much time to these activities and also served on many councils and commitees. Sharon came from a very musically talented family. She played the clarinet all through high school. Sharon was known for her love of dancing and swimming. When the family was young Sharon and Edward bought a cottage in Minocqua. They spent much time there as a family. The family and friends and relatives eventually formed two baseball teams which were called the Papke Lakers and the Blue Lake Chiefs. Every year for several years they would all get together for an annual 4th of July baseball game and celebration. These were some of the families fondest memories.
Sharon was very interested in genealogy and she along with Edward researched an extensive family tree. Sharon did some volunteer work for the Leigh Yawke Woodson Art Museum where she was a docent. Sharon was an avid reader and she was an expert knitter. She loved traveling with Edward. They traveled together on many windmill adventures spanning many states.
Survivors include her husband Edward; four children, Steve (Becky) Baileys, Harbor, Wis., Rick, Wausau, Barb (Rich) Rozella, Wausau and Sara, Iola, Wis.; grandchildren, Eric, Green Bay and Justin, Baileys Harbor; her brother, Tom (Donna) Litzer Weston; and sister-in-law, Linda (Mark) Litzer; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand dogs and grand cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob (Rita) Litzer and Mark (Linda) Litzer; and many other of her In-laws.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Smith for his excellent care and they would also like to thank the staff at Our House Senior Living for their wonderful care the staff at Gardenside Crossing for the awesome care they gave Sharon throughout her stay there and especially during her final days.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
