Selma E. (Hintze) Miessner

February 2, 1930 — May 9, 2025

Selma Esther (Hintze) Miessner was called to her Heavenly Home on May 9, 2025.  She was born February 2, 1930, in Heaton, North Dakota to Irvin and Helena (Schmidt) Clapp.  On August 28, 1948 she married Kenneth Hintze.  They farmed in the Town of Easton and later moved to Wausau, WI.  On January 18, 1962, Kenneth died of a heart attack, leaving Selma to raise three young children.  On July 6, 1968, Selma married Clarence Miessner, adding six more children to her family.  They worked side by side on the family farm.  After selling the farm they built their retirement home together, which they enjoyed for many years.  Clarence passed away on October 12, 2012.

Selma was a member of the Small Town Friends Homemakers Club.  She was a kind, generous, hard-working woman.  She loved flowers and gardening.  She also enjoyed dancing with Clarence, cooking, baking, and crocheting.  Some of her crocheted tablecloths won awards at statewide competitions.  But, most important to her was her service to the Lord, and to her family.  Countless hours of her life were spent helping out at church.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, High Steeple, Edgar, where she faithfully served as president of the Ladies Aid for many years.  She was also a member of the Rebuilding Committee for the new addition to the church.

Selma’s love and support helped to blend two families into one.  She loved to make holidays special for her family, and that will always be a treasured memory.  The last two years of her life were spent in assisted living facilities.  The family would like to thank the staff at The Athenian in Athens, Wisconsin for the incredible, loving care Selma was given during her time there.  The Athenian is one in a million.

Selma is survived by her children, Ron (Sally) Hintze, Wausau, Gene (Kay) Hintze, Highpoint, NC, Julie (John) Leffel, Fenwood, Carol Hamann, Nekoosa, Barbara (Michael) Lamboley, Goleta, CA, Joanne (James) Rathsack, Gayle Werner, and Judy (Steve) Trawicki, all of Edgar.  She is further survived by 18 grandchildren: Dan Hintze, Ben (Sarah) Hintze, Patrick Hintze, Laura (Joel) Schultz, Robert (Traci) Leffel, Amber (Jay) Leonhardt, Linda Hamann, Stephanie Hamann, Amy (David Eden) Lamboley, Matthew Lamboley, Peter (Bethany) Miessner, Stephen (Lorrie) Miessner, Lisa (Chad) Oelke, Lynn (Mike) Czech, Lana (Chris) Strasser, Chris (Stacey) Trawicki, Kimberly Halama, and Jessica (Nate) Miller.  She is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sister, Rosella Paulman; brother, Daniel (Cindy) Voigt; sisters-in-law, Gloria Miessner and Peggy Voigt; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husbands, Kenneth and Clarence, she was preceded in death by her parents, Irwin Clapp and Helena Voigt; step-father, Walter Voigt; a stillborn son, James; son, John Miessner; sons-in-law, Tom Hamann and Jerry Werner; also, her beloved sister, Mildred Beck; sisters, Iona Schalow, Viola Banik, Ethel Drews, and Doris Fehlhaber; brothers, Norman Voigt, David Voigt, Meldon Voigt, and Leonard Voigt; and in-laws, Elvern Beck, Dennis Schalow, Judy Voigt, Del Paulman, Elmer and Patricia Miessner, Edward Miessner, Agatha and Larry Gudenschwager, Helen and Norbert Berens, Wilfred and Margaret Miessner, Mildred and Stanley Oblak, and Melvin Miessner.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church – High Steeple, 119415 Huckleberry Road (Town of Wien), Edgar, with Rev. Michael Mathey officiating.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.  The burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Easton.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Selma’s name for future designation.

We commend the soul of Selma to the Almighty God, and her wonderful memories to our hearts.
