Selma Buchberger, 97, 924 S. 6th Ave., Wausau, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
She was born August 15, 1906 in the town of Rib Falls, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Niquet) Pyan. On January 17, 1925 with temperatures reaching minus twenty five below zero, Selma Pyan and Hugo Buchberger traveled to Wausau in horse and buggy and were married at the Court House. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1961.
Selma worked at the Wausau Hotel, West Side Hotel, Old English Chop House, Marathon Rubber, Shoe Factory, Marathon Electric, Marathon Cheese Corporation and Pauly Cheese where she retired at age 65. In her early years, she enjoyed growing flowers, sewing; especially for her children and grandchildren, crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles and word search puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet Cyzan, West Chicago, Ill and Judy Brennan, Wausau; her son, Wallace Buchberger, Oconto; son-in-law, Clarence Hemmrich, nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband Selma was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Hemmrich, one son Arvin Buchberger, daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Buchberger and Margie Buchberger, sons-in-law, Robert Cyzan Sr. and Lawrence "Butch" Brennan Jr.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
