Sandra L. Schilling, 85, Wausau, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born February 6, 1941 in Merrill, daughter of the late Arno and Verda (Goetsch) Kniess. Sandra was baptized on March 11, 1941, marked with the cross of Jesus forever.
On June 10, 1983, she married Arthur Schilling Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they owned and operated Schilling Plumbing for over 30 years. They traveled often, including trips to Hawaii, Aruba, Alaska and took several cruises.
Sandra really enjoyed her get-togethers with her sons, Kevin and Kirk Schmitt, and their families. All her grandchildren enjoyed spending time with grandma at the plumbing shop. A good time was had by all.
Sandra also worked at Stettin Mutual Insurance for many years, making various long lasting friendships.
In her younger years, she liked to bowl and golf. Sandra bowled in many Pin Buster tournaments, being proud of her 600 series. Sandra taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed participating in school Stunt Nights. She loved to laugh, dance, read, and was very independent. Sandra had a loyal circle of friends who always had her back.
Sandra will be remembered for her generosity and empathy for others. She remembered those in need year-round. Sandra lived by the motto, “You can’t help everyone, but you can help someone!”

Sandra is survived by her son, Kirk Schmitt (Gigi); Renae Nachman (Jobe), Randi Klos (Bryant); brother, Richard Kniess (Debra); sister, Cindy Johnson (J.J.); brother-in-law, William Schilling; grandchildren, Ryan (Megan), Reanna (Jordan), Olivia (Curtis), Blakney (Ryan), Arabella, Matt (Casie), Emilie (Andrew), Alex and Mike; and great-grandchildren, Silas, Ashtyn, Lily, Isla and Julian.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Schmitt and her husband, Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
