Ruth E. Stencil, 85, Wausau, died Sunday December 14, 2014 at Benedictine Living Community, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born August 19, 1929, in Galloway, daughter of the late Bruno and Grace (Cannady) Vetter. As third oldest sibling in a family of 10, with schoolteacher parents, Ruth became a motherly figure as she cared for brothers and sisters. Ruth worked at the Marathon Pharmacy, the Fair Store in Wausau and the Marathon Bakery until she married. Rib River Ballroom is where she met her husband to be, Marvin, who was a musician in a band. They married June 29, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The day after the wedding, they moved to Philadelphia as Marvin was home on leave to get married. Never having been far away from home, Ruth became homesick, and after living in Philadelphia for two years, she and Marvin moved back to Wausau, which has been home to them ever since. Ruth will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor which stayed with her to the very end. She was a member of the Christian Women, the Fatima Council and the Knights of Columbus Ladies. Among her favorite things to do were knitting and collecting angels. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Stencil, Wausau, two children, Randy (Gay) Stencil, Wausau and Karen (Geoff) Krause, Wausau, three grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Peacy, Port Washington, Renea Stencil, Wausau and Nicholas (Laura) Krause, Weston; three great grandchildren, Jacob Peacy, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Krause; siblings, Don (Rose Marie) Vetter, Calif., Patricia Hrobsky, Hamburg, Sara (Jon) Schroeder, Edgar, Jim (Anna Mae) Vetter, Minn., Tom (Anne) Vetter, Marathon, Sue (Al) Lepak, Wausau, Lynne (Norm) Hornung, Marathon, a special sister-in-law, Jeanette Stenzel, Wausau, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-n-law, other relatives and friends.
