Ruth A. Kalkofen

Ruth A. Kalkofen, 79, 5503 Country Lane, Wausau, died Monday, May 17, 2004 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. She was born October 23, 1924 in Antigo, daughter of the late Richard A. and Hariett (Spychalla) Rasmussen. On July 18, 1953 she married Lloyd E. Kalkofen in Antigo. He survives. Ruth graduated from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn. and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She taught music at D.C. Everest Elementary School District, Schofield, Nekoosa High School, and Merrill High School where she was Supervisor of Music. Ruth also taught private piano lessons for many years. She was a member of the Ladies group of the Wausau Elk's Lodge No. 248. Survivors include her husband Lloyd Kalkofen, Wausau; one daughter, Katherine (John) Kautzer, Manitowoc; a special niece, Rosalyn Kiefer, Sheboygan Falls, other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Esther Reed. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday May 21, 2004 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Antigo. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Church of St. Anne and again Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family directs memorials to the American Cancer Society or Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
