Russell L. Newman

October 2, 1960 — February 8, 2025

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

It is with great sadness and shock we announce the unexpected and sudden passing of our father, Russell L. Newman on February 8, 2025 at the age of 64.

Russell was born on October 2, 1960 to Hugh and Geraldine (Paszek) Newman in Edgar, where he resided until our Lord took him home.

Russell was a lifelong learner, devoting many years to continuing his education.  He had an unwavering work ethic, spending most of his career driving semi.  Although he found great success in different careers throughout his life, such as co-owning Edgar Welding and Machine Shop and opening a tool and die room for Fiskars, he returned to hauling the hopes, dreams and needs of others for B & K Trucking until his well deserved early retirement.

Dad was strong willed and stubborn at times, however, he had an enormous heart filled with love, generosity and kindness dedicated to helping others.  We take great pride in the countless lives he has touched.

Russell was united in marriage to Frances Henrichs in 1980.  Although his marriage to Fran ended, they remained close friends throughout the years, sharing a deep bond built on the love they shared for their children and grandchildren.

Russell is survived by his two children, Dustin (Krystal) Newman and Tiffany (Kyle) Crawford; five grandchildren, Payge (Truman Shull), Traetyn, Blaynne, Halley and Austin; former spouse, Frances Newman; mother, Geraldine Newman; two sisters, Cindy Knetter and Connie (Darrell) Hand; and two brothers, Brian Newman and Gary (Cindy) Newman.  He is further survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh; brother, Steven Newman; and brother-in-law, David Knetter.

Dad’s greatest pride and joy in life were his children and grandchildren.  Although he spent long hours on the road and sacrificed his time away from his family, he displayed all of our life achievements proudly in his home for all to see.

A heartfelt “Thank You” to the Edgar EMS for doing everything you could to save our dad.

Dad’s legacy will carry on forever, reminding us to choose to live a life of meaningful acts of service.

“10-4, good buddy”
