Russell C. Johnson, 92, Wausau, died Saturday September 7, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born August 29, 1921, in Stratford, son of the late Edward and Emily (Kroening) Johnson. In 1943, he married Florence Schreiber in Colby. She survives.
Russell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army from 1943 until 1945. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Prior to his retirement in 1975, he was employed as a mechanic for freight companies in Wausau. Among his favorite things to do were camping, fixing cars and putting puzzles together.
Survivors include his wife, Florence, Wausau, four children, Carol (Ken) Bauer, Wausau, Jan (Marv) Lemmer, Marathon, Pamela (Steve) Misoni, Mosinee, Dale (Cindy) Johnson, Wausau, grandchildren, Barbara (Kevin) Stepan, Randy Bauer, Russell (Lois) Bauer, Larry Bauer, Becky (Clayton) Sternot; Jayson (Lanette) Lemmer, Jeremy (Jill) Lemmer; Jeremiah Johnson; Taylor Johnson; six great grandchildren, one sister, Doris Kohnhorst, Weston.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Johnson, three grandchildren, Chad Johnson, Jennifer Misoni and Elvio Misoni, one sister, Jean Habeck and three brothers, Robert, James and Delbert Johnson.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Weds. September 11, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Timothy Welles will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full Military Honors will be conducted by members of the VFW. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Weds. from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Mount View Care Center and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the wonderful care given to Russell.
