Russell J. Callahan

Russell J. Callahan 88, 136 Kent St., Wausau, died peacefully, at his home on Wednesday October 3, 2001, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born March 11, 1913 in Tomah, son of the late Daniel and Mary Callahan. Russell Callahan and Pearl Dominski were united in marriage on September 25, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1998. Russell served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service from 1945 until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau, the Elk's Lodge #248, Wausau, the National Association of Letter Carriers and was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Russell is survived by his wife, Pearl; three children, Russell Jr. (Roxie) Callahan, Onalaska; Mary (Len) Englert, Nekoosa and Tom (Karen) Callahan, Schofield, five grandchildren, Andy (Jada) Callahan, Madison, Kim Callahan, Onalaska, Christina & Jenny Englert, Nekoosa and Brianna Callahan, Schofield;one great-granddaughter, Maddie Callahan, Madison. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Russell was a well known athlete in football, basketball and track at Wausau High School. He also played football and basketball at the U.W. Madison. He especially liked woodworking, dancing, a good pie and watching sports of all kinds. He enjoyed sharing time with his children and grandchildren. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Saturday October 6, 2001 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 Second Street, Wausau. Rev. Stephen Gross will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of the arrangements.
