Rupert A. Steinke 76, E12292 County Road N, Wausau, died Friday April 23, 2004 at his home, surrounded by family and loved ones, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 6, 1928 in Hatley, son of the late Robert and Martha (Stoltz) Steinke. On September 9, 1950 he married Joyce Lodholz at St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives. Rupert farmed with his family in the town of Easton. During this time he also worked for National Heating and Jarp Industries for 36 years. In his retirement he was custodian at St. Agnes Parish for the past six years. Rupert will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed watching his grandsons sports activities, gardening, hunting and fishing. He found his work at the church, with his wife Joyce, rewarding and enjoyable. He always helped people and made many friends. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Steinke, Wausau, two sons, DuWayne (Marietta) Steinke, Wausau and Darrell (Laureen) Steinke, Wausau, three grandsons, Kevin, Clint and Justin; brothers, Nicholas Steinke, Leonard (Maxine) Steinke and Ernest Steinke; sisters, Alicia Meverden, Beatrice (Gene) Kurth, Virginia Anklam and Delores (Vernon) Pyke, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Stanke and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Steinke, Frank Steinke and Eugene Stanke and two brothers-in-law, Irvin Meverden and James Anklam. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday April 26, 2004 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Weston. Rev. Joseph Rafacz will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service Sunday evening at the Sixth Street funeral home. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the compassionate care extended to Rupert during his time with them.
