Rupert S. Ostrowski
81, Wausau, died Friday April 20, 2007 at his home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born February 17, 1926 in the town of Reid, son of the late Albert and Frances (Esker) Ostrowski. On July 30, 1949, he married Janet "Jan" Wieland at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wittenberg. She survives.
Rupert was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Wausau Iron Works then served as custodian at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. As an active member of St. Anne Parish, Rupert served as an usher, worked at Fish Frys and Polka Fest among many other volunteer activities. Other involvements include, parking cars for the Wisconsin Valley Fair and Badger State Games, working at the Farmer's Market, helping serve meals at the Jubilee House and Salvation Army. He enjoyed working in his garden, driving his John Deere tractor and spending time with his grand daughters, especially fishing with them. Rupert was well known for always having candy to pass out. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, George Schreier Council No. 1069, Wausau, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau, the Disabled American Veterans, and had also been a Boy Scout Leader and Little League Coach.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Ostrowski, Wausau, three sons, Bruce (Bonnie) Ostrowski, Michael (Jamie Nelson) Ostrowski, Mark (Marilyn) Ostrowski, all of Wausau, two daughters, Sister Susan Ostrowski, O.P., Redwood City, Calif., Sharon Ostrowski, Wausau, three grand daughters, Michelle, Megan and Mallory Ostrowski, all of Wausau, four brothers, Albin (Dorothy) Ostrowski, Eland, Conrad (Maxine) Ostrowski, Wittenberg, Eugene (Shirley) Ostrowski and Jerome (Rose Ann) Ostrowski, all of Eland, one sister, Bernice (Edmund) Walters, Wittenberg and one sister-in-law, Esther Ostrowski, Hatley.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Ostrowski and a sister, Mary Ann Gosh.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday April 24, 2007 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Wittenberg. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anne Parish, the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
