Rufus J. Rodemeier
84, 4708 E. Butternut Road, Wausau, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 peacefully at his home in the loving embrace of his family under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
He was born May 29, 1919 in Wausau son of the late John and Emma (Kranz) Rodemeier. On March 4, 1942 Rufus married Adeline Kraege in San Francisco. She survives.
Rufus was an operating engineer for Riverside Sand and Gravel for 35 years. He and his wife also farmed in the town of Wausau for 16 years. Rufus was a member of the Operating Engineers local 139 for over 50 years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Rufus had served in the United States Army during World War II.
Rufus loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, square dancing and bird watching.
Survivors besides his wife Adeline include his children; Mary Wendt, Mc Henry, Ill., Sharon (John) Aldrich, Arbor Vitae, Sally (Gerald) Larson, Rhinelander, Gloria Sharp, Albuquerque, NM, Fran (Jeff) Kujawa, Schofield, daughter-in- law Kay Rodemeier, Sugar Camp, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one brother Ben Rodemeier, Wausau along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Rufus was preceded in death by his son Michael, one granddaugther Joie Sharp and two brothers Frank and Joe Rodemeier.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Stephen Gross will preside. Entombment will be in Garden of Eternal Rest Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military rites will be conducted by the VFW. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
