Rueben Louis Ahlquist, 83, Edgar, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Harbor House, Wausau.
He was born May 10, 1926 in the Township of Emmet, son of the late Arthur and Laurena (Ahrens) Ahlquist. On July 4, 1962 he married Clara Volhard at St. Mary's Rectory, Marathon. She preceded him in death April 7, 2004.
Rueben was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Edgar American Legion.
Throughout his life Rueben worked as a plumber.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Janice (Tony) Thurs, Edgar and Donna (FiancAC. Eugene Stahel) Otto, Wausau, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers Raymond and Elroy and nephew, Phillip Ahlquist.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday October 12, 2009 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 712 2nd Street, Marathon. Rev. Jon W. Hadler will officiate. Burial at St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon, at a later date. Friends may call from 3:00 - 6:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 327 N. 3rd Avenue, Edgar and again from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. There will be a 6:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday at the Edgar funeral home.
Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Edgar Memorial Post #10187 and Edgar American Legion Sawyer-Drumm Post #393 immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marathon.
