Rubye G. Lawrence

June 27, 1918 — November 12, 2012

Rubye G. Lawrence, 94, Wausau, died Monday November 12, 2012 at the Hospice House. She was born June 27, 1918, in Wausau, daughter of the late Stanley and Pearl (Witter) Derbick. On September 28, 1937, she married Elmer H. Lawrence in Belvidere, Ill. He preceded her in death June 17, 2000. Rubye's first love was her husband Elmer and a close second was her precious dog Snowy. They spent thousands of hours snuggled up in Rubye's chair, playing ball and listening to the radio. She loved spending time at the cottage on Lake Nokomis with Elmer and all of the family. Rubye spent countless hours on her flowers, walking the logging trail, swinging the kids and playing cards. You could find Rubye either cleaning or cooking in the kitchen. This was one of the many reasons why she enjoyed working at Grebe's in the housewares department for 37 years. She also had a passion for making sure everyone was well fed. A few favorites were Rubye's homemade buttermilk pancakes, chocolate star cookies and her famous popcorn. Other hobbies she enjoyed were crocheting, reading, flower gardening, listening to the radio, watching the Art Linkletter show and Sunday church. Rubye was a caring person, always there for anyone in need. She would read countless books and journals on nutrition. Rubye was best at giving people advice on how to stay healthy which is a true testament to her 94 years of life. She was quick as a whip and remembered more things than anyone could ever imagine. She was the family encyclopedia never missing a birthday or anniversary. Rubye could even tell you what the weather was from 5 years prior. Rubye's purpose in life was always caring for others. She showed her love for others in so many ways and will be missed dearly. Survivors include a sister, Joyce Rossi, Wausau, nieces and nephews, Randy (Jean) Derbick and their children, Sara, Tara & Tracie; Linda (Bruce) Anklam and their children, Alissa, Krista & Bethany; Cindy (Ralph) Andren and their children, Dawn and Kelly; Mike Derbick (Heidi Wiegel); Curt Derbick; Steve Derbick and many other loving nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Derbick and two sisters, Marion Nelson and Nancy Rauschl. The family would like to extend thanks to the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and also the staff and volunteers at Aspirus Hospice House for their loving care of Rubye. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday November 16, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Wausau. Rev. Gerald Morris will officiate. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
