Roy "Buzz" Smith

Roy "Buzz" R. Smith, 81, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home. He was born September 8, 1934 in Presque Isle, son of the late Roy and Dorothy (Girsch) Smith. On November 16, 1985, he married Sandy Bauman. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2014. Roy served his country in the United States Navy as a gunner on the USS Helena (CA-75) Baltimore-Class Heavy Cruiser during the Korean War. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest. His pastimes included, working on his yard, cleaning and organizing everything, reading the bible, his daily phone calls talking with his daughter in Arizona and spending time with "Angel" his beloved cat. Roy is the beloved father of two children, Jane (Marvin) Gallup La Rue, Lake Havasu City, Ariz. and Jennifer (David) Bittner, Pelican Lake; loving grandfather to Jessica Klimek, Ashley Klimek and Wayne Gallup; he will be missed by his great-grandson, Zachariah Birks Gallup and great-great grandsons, Ryan and Abel Birks Gallup; and loving brother to Ramona (Donald) Cannady, Tomahawk. He was preceded in death by one sister, Norma J. Dudash and one brother, Gerald Smith. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Roy had his favorite charities which he donated to each month, Disabled Veterans of America and the Humane Society of Marathon County.
