Roy E. Shadrick

Roy E. Shadrick, 97, Town of Goodrich, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Colonial Center, Colby. He was born March 3, 1912 in the Town of Goodrich, the son of the late Anna and Louis Shadrick. On June 1, 1940, Roy married Ruth Helen Jarchow. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1954. He then was remarried to Virginia Janko who preceded him in death October of 1999. His entire life he was a logger and worked road construction as a dozer operator. His proudest accomplishment was to help build the Alaskan highway which he returned to in 2001 with his best friend, Tippy. He also owned and operated a sawmill in Goodrich which he retired from at the age of 87, but continued logging his land until 2006. Roy's favorite past time was sport fishing in Mexico and deer hunting, where at the age of 17 he shot his trophy buck which is still admired by everyone today. Survivors include his eight children, Betty (Hilton) Billiot, Pearl River, La., Robert (Gloria), Phillips, Wis., Jack (Irene), Beloit, Wis., Dennis (Joan), Granton, Wis., Sharon (Roger) Matson, Janesville, Wis., Barbara (Randy) Manecke, Marathon, Wis., David (Sheila), Medford, Wis., and Joan (Richie) Dahl, Athens, Wis., 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one brother, Emil Shadrick, Chicago, Ill. In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Ott and Joseph and two sisters, Alvina Margetta and Leona Shadrick. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church, Goodrich, Wis. Pastor Carl Busse will officiate. Burial will be held at the Parish cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
