Roy S. Oleson

Roy "Ole" S. Oleson 88, Wausau, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau. He was born September 8, 1923 in Unity, Wis., son of the late John and Edna (Holmes) Oleson. On January 24, 1948, he married Geraldine Rogalla in Cresco, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2007. Roy worked as a millwright at the former American Can Company, Wausau until his retirement in 1980. From 1981 until 1985, Roy and Geraldine lived in Soldotna, Alaska in a log home they built themselves. Roy enjoyed hunting moose and fishing salmon on the Kenai Peninsula. They moved back to Wisconsin where Roy enjoyed teaching his grandkids the finer points of hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Survivors include, two children, Peter Oleson, Wausau and Wendy (Keith) Wilcox, Athens; one daughter-in-law, Wanda Oleson, Wausau; nine grandchildren, Alaric (Vanessa) Oleson, Molly (Brook) Green, Althea Oleson, Jeremy Wilcox, Corey (Rachel) Wilcox, Jennifer Wilcox, Casey Wilcox, Seth Oleson and Jesse Oleson; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Devan Tessmer and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, Geraldine, he was preceded in death by two sons, Eric Oleson and Kristofer "Otis" Oleson; three sisters, Marjory Schultz, Beatrice (Carl) Schmirler and Edwina (Emil) Garski; and three brothers, Whitney "Bud" (Elva) Oleson, Douglas (Elva "Boots") Oleson and Donavon (Adeline) Oleson. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Townsend, Wis. at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Marathon County Humane Society or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
