Rosemary “Rosy” M. Schmitt, 94, of Edgar, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Colonial Health Services in Colby, under the care of Northshore at Home Hospice.

She was born to the late Garnet and Grace (Haugen) Anderson on August 8, 1932, in Decorah, Iowa. While growing up Rosy lived on farms in Harmony, Minnesota and Cresco, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Cresco and also married Walter Schmitt there on June 11, 1951. After their marriage, they farmed in Iowa for ten years. Over time they were ready to buy their own farm together and after doing their research, they decided on a farm in Edgar, Wisconsin. In 1978 they built their home and began raising Ginseng.

Rosy loved her family and especially loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards, vegetable and flower gardening, snowmobiling, and the time with her family during the holidays throughout the year. She loved preparing for everyone’s birthday celebrations including baking her angel food cakes. Rosy was a member of the Krecji City Cruisers Snowmobile Club including a time as the treasurer. She also was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the PCCW.

Survivors include her children, Daryl (ViAnn) Schmitt, Diane (Gary) Kaiser, and Roxane Kurtzweil; grandchildren, Greg Schmitt, Lisa Schmitt, Amanda (Brian) Goossens, Heather (Mike) Ellis, Robert (Tiffany) Kaiser, Chad (Kelly) Kurtzweil, and Amy Kurtzweil; great-grandchildren, Reese and Macey Goossens, Grayson and Paige Kaiser, Caleb (Nadia) O’Reilly, Casey O’Reilly, Emma Kurtzweil, and Chloe Kurtzweil; step-grandchildren, Matt (Katie) Teresinski, Amy (Brian) Konetter, and David (Sam) Teresinski; step-great-grandchildren, Ella, Everett, Catherine, and Rachett; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents, Garnet and Grace; sister, Geraldine Schlindwein; and son-in-law, Dan Kurtzweil.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar, with Rev. Alan Wierzba presiding. The visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar, and continue on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home to conclude the evening visitation. Burial will follow the Mass in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
