Rose Gritzmacher

Rose H. Gritzmacher, 93, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born March 2, 1924 in Wausau, daughter of the late Joseph and Irene (Zimmel) Rauschl. On May 11, 1946, she married Eugene Gritzmacher at the Naval Base in Washington. D.C. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1976. Rose began cooking at the Pine Bar Restaurant in Wausau and later bought the restaurant, in which she owned and operated for many years, until her retirement. She was known in the community for cooking amazing food, using her own special recipes. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, bowling, knitting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include, seven children, Mary (Jeff) Schlatterer, Wausau, Elizabeth (Steve) Wadzinski, Mosinee, Ann (Dale) Mroczenski, Merrill, Christopher (Mary Jo) Gritzmacher, Wausau, Carrie (Troy) Maly, Meadowlands, MN, Susan (John) Gutsch, Wausau and Linda (Bill) Buss, Eland; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jeff Reeder, Florence, WI; daughter-in-law, Shirley Gritzmacher, Hatley; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Eugene, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Lucy Reeder; two sons, John and Tom Gritzmacher; eight siblings; and her special friends, Jim Erlandson. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at St. Florian Catholic Church, Hatley. Rev. Greg Bohren will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
