Roman "Romie" Andraska, 94, Wausau, passed away September 20, 2013 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice at the Wellington Place Assisted Living, Rib Mountain.
Roman was born April 1, 1919, in Marshfield, WI, son of the late Henry and Hilda (Gonering) Andraska. He married Marcella Wenzel at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel, September 18, 1946. The couple just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Roman joined the army and served in World War II in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge, he began working for the Mobil Oil Company as a gas distributor in Marathon County until his retirement in 1982.
Roman is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Marcella, Rib Mountain; two daughters, Glenice (Bob) Klestinski, Green Bay, WI ; Karen (Bruce) Donahue, Burke, VA; four sons, David (Diane) Andraska, Black River Falls, WI; Mark Andraska, Marathon; Jim (Kim) Andraska, Hatley, WI; Paul Andraska, Grand Prairie, TX; two sisters, Alice Young, Shawano, WI. and Joan Zieckert, Brown Deer, WI. Roman is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Nicholas (Teresa) Burkard, Tyler, Colin, Katherine Donahue; Rebecca (Jeff) Hoeben, Amy (Matt) Burnette, Kevin Andraska; Kristy Andraska, Jordan (Samantha) Andraska; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Robert, William, Lucille and Evelyn.
Roman was still sharp as a tack for being 94 years young. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, playing cards, watching sports, esp. wrestling matches. He was a big fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 393, Edgar and a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cassel. Rev. Jerome Patric will preside. Visitation will begin at the church from 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Marathon American Legion.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the compassionate care that Roman received from the staffs of the Wellington Place and Aspirus Hospice. Memorials may be directed to the family for donations to local charities.
