Roland W. Hall, 90, Wausau, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home surrounded by family.
He was born January 9, 1924 in Marathon, son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Hall. On April 30, 1957, he married Mary Lou Kutil at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on May 4, 2013.
Roland was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during World War II and the Korean War. During his service between 1943 and 1953, he served as a mechanic for 747 airplanes, as a power plant mechanic, and as a mechanic with the 28th Motor Vehicle Squadron. Roland was awarded many medals, including the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Marathon American Legion Post #469 and just recently received his 70 year pin.
In his younger years, Roland worked at the Marathon Brewery and the Pontiac Garage in Marathon. He retired after many years as a Beater Finisher at Wausau Papers in Brokaw. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and being a Cub Scout Leader.
Roland had very diverse interests. He had many hobbies. He loved working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, as well as many other types of puzzles. He was a self-taught mathematician which led to interests in servicing electronics and woodworking. He enjoyed playing guitar, riding motorcycles, shooting pool, and working on model airplanes and cars. He also made his own beer. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and pronouncing his words backwards.
Survivors include five children: Tom (Michelle) Hall, Marshall, Shirley (Larry Longmire) Hall, Wausau, Ann (Dan Tritten) Hall-Tritten, Wausau, Pat (Julie) Hall, Milwaukee and Michael (Jenna) Hall, Weston. He is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Linn Hall, Wausau; ten grandchildren: Lauren Krajewski, Elizabeth, Nick, Adam (Katie), Talus, Avalon and Erin Hall, Ryan Knippel, and Breanna and Brett (Beth) Tritten; three sisters: Evelyn Hilber, Marathon, Delores Maguire, Mosinee and Mary Zebro, Mosinee; one brother: Robert (Lucy) Hall, St. Peters, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ellen Kennedy-Hall; two sons, Jerome "Jerry" Hall and infant William Hall; one sister, Bernice Knetter; and two brothers, Roger "Dick" Hall and Edmund Hall.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.

The family would also like to give a special thank you to all the staff at Wausau Manor for the loving care, compassion and support for Roland and his family in the past two years.
