Roger F. Rasmussen

Roger F. Rasmussen 70, Wausau, died Thursday, May 27, 2004 under the care of Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. He was born March 14, 1934 in Wausau, son of the late Frederick and Martha "Betty" (Lemke) Rasmussen. In June 1952, Roger enlisted in the US Army and began his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, then participated in three weeks of airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Roger continued his training in Special Forces at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In June 1955, he was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany and was one of the first 500 men to volunteer with the Green Beret in the Special Forces as a demolition expert. Roger worked as display manager for H.C. Prange Company, Wausau and then started the R & R Tree Service, Wausau until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau and was with the Rib Mountain Ski Patrol for 27 years. Besides loving challenges, Roger enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, skiing and was a avid outdoorsman. Above all, he was happiest spending time and doing projects with his children. He was a loving father, grandfather and companion. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy (Scott) Meier, St. Louis, Debbie (Scott) Kufahl and Dina Rasmussen all of Wausau; one son, Steve (Peggy) Rasmussen, Wausau; four grandchildren, Eric and Aaron Meier, Jamie (Eric) Everts and Sarah Kufahl; two sisters, Gloria Blume, Wausau and Joan (Jack) Pregont, Florida; special friend, Virginia "Jinny" Knoeck, Wausau. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Pat Hansen. The funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday June 1, 2004 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the Sixth street funeral home. Full military honors will follow the service at Restlawn Memorial Park conducted by American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau. Online condolences at www.petersonkraemer.com
