Roger Walter Langhoff, 82, Athens, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born September 20, 1930 in Wausau, son of the late Walter C. and Ruth L. (Harding) Langhoff. He was baptized on November 11, 1930 and confirmed on April 6, 1944 at Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau. Roger graduated from Wausau High School in 1948 and then went on to serve his country during the Korean War in the United States Airforce. Roger worked for the Wausau Brewery prior to his service in the military.
On November 4, 1961, he married Elaine Halvorson at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. She survives.
He farmed and also worked as an auditor for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, retiring in 1993, after 31 years of service. Roger was chairman of the town of Halsey, served on the Athens School Board and was the finance officer for the American Legion in Athens for over 10 years.
Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed polka dancing and playing sheephead. Roger was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Elaine Langhoff, Athens; his son, Scott (JoAnna) Langhoff, San Diego, Cal.; two daughters, Roxanne (John Jr.) Glassford, Marathon and Holly (David) DeWitt, Elroy; eight grandchildren, Allison Borchardt, Sarah (Kip) Kreager, Bryan Langhoff, Cassandra and Cole Glassford, Brittany (Cory) Olson, Nicole and Jordan DeWitt; and three great-grandchildren, Courtney and David Borchardt and Ethan Olson.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan; one daughter, Michelle Langhoff; and one brother, Kenneth Langhoff.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Christ United Church, Athens, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 4, Athens and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8527, Athens. Rev. Teri Hanson will officiate. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will be in the spring at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
