Roger Joseph “Boomer” Bertram, 68, Schofield passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 6, 2026.
He was born January 21, 1958 in Fond du Lac, son of the late Alfonse and Juliana (Wettstein) Bertram. On June 20, 1987 he married Carla Skrzypchak at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Weston. Together they had two children; Jacklyn and Vincent.
Roger began his career in broadcasting as a radio DJ and local sports announcer before spending many years in sales for TV and radio where he built lasting relationships throughout the community. A man of deep faith, Roger was a devoted Catholic and active member of St. Therese Church, where he generously volunteered during weekly Mass and special events. He loved hunting and fishing, especially opening weekend trips and salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, and cherished camping with his family throughout Wisconsin. As a loyal Wisconsin sports fan, he rarely missed cheering on the Green Bay Packers or listening to Brewers games on the radio. In later years, he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, visiting family, and making new memories. Roger also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, especially his beloved yellow lab, Elle, and the family’s golden retriever, Ruby. Above all, he will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his love of being surrounded by people sharing stories, laughter, and making every gathering more memorable.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carla Bertram, his children Jacklyn (Peter) Van Nortwick, and Vince (Amy) Bertram, two grandsons Jack and Benjamin Bertram; his sister Kathy (Joe) Schumacher and his twin sister Ruth (Eric) Schumacher; his mother-in-law Donna Skrzypchak; and two sisters-in-law Sue Bertram and Candice Koch-Wetzel, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Norm and John Bertram; his father-in-law David Skrzypchak; and his brother-in-law Todd Koch.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild, WI. The Rev. Janusz Kowalski will preside.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
