Robert J. Volm Sr.
81, Marathon, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at his home, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born August 21, 1930 in Marathon County, son of the late Otto and Rose (Schultz) Volm. On April 13, 1957, he married Mary Ellen Meyers in Wabasha, Minn. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2004.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War from 1947 until 1955. He was a member of the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post No. 469, Marathon. For many years, Robert worked for Wausau Homes Inc., until his retirement. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching his grandsons race oval track and spending time with his family.
Survivors include, five daughters, Debbie (friend, Gerhardt) Volm, Melanie Volm, Sheri Volm, Lisa Volm and Ika (friend, Guy) Volm; six sons, Randy (Kathy) Volm, Ricky (friend, Trisha) Volm, Robert (Brenda) Volm Jr., Ronald (Becky) Volm, Rory (Tammy) Volm and Scott (Jayanna) Volm; one sister, Irene Levick; and many grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews further survive.
Besides his parents and wife, Mary Ellen, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Charity Volm; one sister, Dorothy Gorski; and two brothers, Richard and Jerome Volm.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion, Marathon. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services all at the funeral home.
