Robert H. Steckbauer Jr., 95, Wausau, was called from this life on Thursday, October 3, 2024. He was born on July 5, 1929 in Aniwa, son of the late Robert Sr. and Lorina (Loos) Steckbauer. On September 1, 1956 he married Dolores Erdman at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2011.
Robert had old school values and was a hard worker who provided for his family. Robert worked for 40 years at James River in the shipping department. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. Dad had the privilege of participating in the Never Forgotten Honor Flight XV in 2014 representing the Army 8th Calvary. He was active in the V.F.W. Burns Post 388 and was a life-member. Robert was also a founding and lifetime member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Wausau.
In his early retirement years Bob and Dolores enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and attending their granddaughters’ activities. Bob enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the Northwoods and driving his Ford Jubilee through the woods. Deer hunting, fishing, and playing Sheepshead were annual traditions for over 40 years.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Delores, son Doug, daughter-in-law Susan Cassel, sister Alice Fisher, and brothers Eugene and Donald. Robert is survived by his son Daniel (Kari Werner), Wausau and two granddaughters Katelyn and Morgan Steckbauer.
Dad, you will be missed. Rest in peace.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 700 West Bridge Street, Wausau, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Rev. Tom Lindner will preside. Burial will be in the military section at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, with military honors accorded by V.F.W. Burns Post 388.
