Robert R. Schmidlkofer

Robert "Bob" R. Schmidlkofer, 80, Wausau, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with his family by his side. He was born January 11, 1937, son of the late Ulrich and Romelda (Schmitz) Schmidlkofer. In 1955 Bob graduated from Wausau High School. He excelled in all sports especially basketball and tennis. He attended Carroll College and in 1958 was drafted into the United States Army where he was a meat inspector. He also worked in the systems department at the Army Depot. On May 28, 1961 he married Marcia Howard in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1967 he began working at Employers Insurance of Wausau in the systems department. After 26 years of devoted service he retired in 1993. On April 7, 2003 he married Janis Artus in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing, softball and followed the Brewers, Packers and Badgers. He also enjoyed watching any and all sports on television as well as game shows and old time movies especially westerns. Bob was known for his knowledge in sports trivia and his passion for Sudoku puzzles. He was an excellent cook and he blessed family functions with kindness and hospitality. Bob was a kind and generous man to a fault. He would give you the shirt off his back and ask if you needed more. Survivors include his wife, Janis Artus, Wausau; son, Robin Schmidlkofer (Wausau); daughter, Renee Schmidlkofer (Merrill); the mother of his children, Marcia Henke, Merrill; grandchildren, Aaron, Bailey and Connor Schmidlkofer, (Wausau); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jayne (Jim) Seeger, Wausau; John (Diane) Artus, Marathon, Jerry (Sally) Artus, Marathon, Judy (Randy) DeBroux, Wausau and Jeff (Cindy) Artus, Marathon and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Schmidlkofer. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Tim Gurlea will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
