Robert J. Leimbacher
88, Our House Assisted Living, 220 W. Campus Drive, Wausau, died Monday May 3, 2004 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 25, 1916 in Joliet, Ill., son of the late Charles and Pearl (Smith) Leimbacher. On June 21, 1942 he married Marjorie Wilson in Phoenix. She preceded him in death. He married Nancy Zellet Brown on March 16, 1996 in Tucson. She preceded him in death October 12, 2000.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Robert was proud to serve his country and retired from military service as an Air Force Colonel. He served as Director of Operations for the 376th Bombardment Squadron and was Commander of Sculthorpe Air Force Base, Norfolk, England. He also served in the Marshall Islands and the Philippines and for several years, he worked at the Pentagon.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wives, Marjorie and Nancy, three brothers, Raymond "Cheese" Leimbacher, Earl Leimbacher and Edgar "Babe" Leimbacher.
Memorial services will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday May 5, 2004 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
