Robert G. Hilgendorf, 68, Marathon, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born February 16, 1941 in Lincoln County, son of the late Arthur and Nina (Allen) Hilgendorf. On February 11, 1961 he married Mary Waldburger at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Irma.
Robert was a Tank Commander in the Army National Guard during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He worked as a mechanic specializing in diesel engine repair.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hilgendorf, Marathon, four children, Susan (Jeff) Klun, Merrill, Judy (Larry) Kowalski, Marathon, Mark (Sarah) Hilgendorf, Rib Falls and Matt Hilgendorf, Marathon, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Stan (Diane) Hilgendorf and Kyrle Hilgendorf and two sisters, Dorothy (Joe) Kahle and JoCarol (Jim) Moede.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday January 12, 2010 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
