Robert D. Hameister
81, 1212 Grand Ave., Wausau, died Weds. February 20, 2002 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 20, 1921 in Antigo, son of the late Harry and Marie (Peterson) Hameister. On May 23, 1943 he married Angie Verhasselt in Tullahmoma, Tennessee. She survives.
A veteran of World War II, Bob served in the U.S. Army and was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post #388, their Honor Guard and the Last Mans Club.
After his military service, Robert had been employed at the Falk Corporation, Milwaukee, then was employed at the former Murray Machinery, Wausau, retiring in 1984. From 1970 until 1980 the Hameister's owned and operated the Maple Leaf Motel, Schofield. He was a school bus driver in the Everest School District retiring in 1993. He was also a member of the Wausau Elk's Lodge #248, Wausau, the Sacred Heart Council Knights of Columbus, Schofield and the St. Thomas Moore Club at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Hameister, Wausau, two daughters, Judith (Donald) Klotz, Milwaukee, Connie (Jim) DeJong, Wausau, one son, Daniel Hameister, Milwaukee, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Laverne Moder, Appleton, and Elizabeth (Leslie) Steckbar, Appleton, two brothers, Donald (Maxine) Hameister, Madison and Ellsworth Hameister, King, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Hameister Jr and Brian Hameister, one sister and three brothers.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday February 23, 2002 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
