Robert W. Frickenstein

May 10, 1940 — October 19, 2024

Robert (Bob) Frickenstein passed away on October 19, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. Bob was born on May 10, 1940 as the youngest child to Edwin and Florence ( Staple) Frickenstein. Bob graduated from Edgar High School in 1958 where he met the love of his life, Joyce. Joyce and Bob were married on August 6, 1960, and other than his brief stint in the U.S. Army, he remained faithfully by her side for the next 64 years. After completing his service, Bob returned to central Wisconsin where he soon began working as a baker. For ten years, he and Joyce were the owners & operators of Bob's Bakery and proudly served their baked goods all over Wausau. Bob worked around town as a baker until his retirement in 2002. However, Bob refused to stop baking altogether as he spent many days in his kitchen making buns, cakes, and cookies for his loyal fans.  Specifically around the holidays, many ice cream pails full of cookies were dropped off on front porches. Bob also had a passion for cars and usually had a classic car in his garage or a NASCAR race on his TV. He continually had some project he wanted completed and when it was not his own house, he was likely volunteering at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.  His enjoyed bowling  and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events & special activities. Bob had a great sense of humor and always had a quip ready for his friends, family,  and the waitresses at his beloved Blue Willow restaurant. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, Wausau; three daughters, Sheri (Matt) Mayer, Wausau, Mary (Jeff) Biskupski, West Allis and Rhonda (Bart Holtz) Pickruhn, Wausau; eight grandchildren, Claire (Ben) Heindel, Megan (Taylor) Chappel, Evan (Jocelyn) Mayer, Brandon (Kelsey) Biskupski, Andrew Biskupski, Logan Pickruhn, Alyssa (Patrick Bender) Biskupski and Madeleine (Cory) Schlosser; six (soon to be seven) great-grandchildren, Harper and Emmett Heindel, Eliya Mayer, Miles Chappel, Baby Chappel and Amelia and Brooklynn Biskupski; one brother-in-law, Allen Hamann; many nieces and nephews; and many friends who will all find their waistlines shrinking without Bob's cookies. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Gordon, Harold and Wallace Frickenstein and Joyce Lewis. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wausau.  Rev. Eric Hauan will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 10. Wausau. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wausau.
