Robert "Bob" J. Brzezinski, 85, Wausau, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at Wausau Manor Nursing Home.
He was born May 16, 1930 in Wausau, son of the late Barney and Mary (Kryzan) Brzezinski. On November 27, 1954, he married Jean Peplinski at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst. She survives.
Bob was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served as Supply Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. He was also a member of the American Legion Honor Guard. For many years, Bob worked for the former Wisconsin River Supply Company in Wausau, until his retirement. Following his retirement, he enjoyed tending bar at the American Legion. He was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was on the Parish Counsel, was an usher for many years and also was an adult server for funerals.
Bob was an avid dog lover and was a member of the Paper City Kennel Club and both showed and trained Golden Retrievers for the Timber Ridge Dog Training Club. His first love after family and faith was playing golf. He also enjoyed other outdoor activities including riding his bike and working on his lawn.
Survivors include, his loving wife of 61 years, Jean Brzezinski, Wausau; five children, Barbe (Roman) Murkowski, Madison, Karen (Richard) Gugel, Waunakee, Nancy (Steve Hodges) Brzezinski, Madison, Robert Brzezinski, Schofield and Joy (Mike Martino) Dregne, Milton; eight grandchildren, Luke (Melissa Turskey) Gugel, Sarah Gugel, Christopher and Jordan Brzezinski, Alexis, Cassidy and Ian Ruchti and Victor Murkowski; three great-grandchildren, Ayden, Chloe and Logan; one sister, Mary Jane (Mohammed) Fayyaz, Madison; one brother, Paul (Sharon) Brzezinski, Bluffton, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a young daughter, Judy in 1963; four siblings, Jimmie, Leonard and Ronald Brzezinski and Phyllis Buss; and one niece, Michele Brzezinski.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will preside. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
