Rita M. Sonnentag

Rita M. Sonnentag 85, formerly of Edgar, died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at North Central Health Care Center, Wausau. She was born March 5, 1920 in Iron Mountain, Michigan, daughter of the late Albin and Florence (Oettinger) Elffors. On January 29, 1938 she married Albon Sonnentag in Laona. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1968. Prior to her retirement, Rita was employed at Marathon Cheese Corporation as a production scheduler for 25 years. She was also a member of the Edgar Women's Club and St. John Catholic Church P.C.C.W. Some of Rita's favorite pastimes were reading, golfing, crossword puzzles and fishing. Survivors include her children, Albon (Geraldine) Sonnentag, Wausau, Karen (James) Dix, Waunakee, Dennis (Marilyn) Sonnentag, Edgar, Michael (Fran) Sonnentag, Wausau and Terry Sonnentag, Merrill, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two sisters, Anita (Arnold) Conley, Riverton, Wyoming and Lorraine (Don) Dehart, Crandon, one brother, James Austin, Laona, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Rita was preceded in death by her step-father Martin Austin, three brothers and two sisters. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. The Rev. Nornam Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
