Rita T. Seymour, 93, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Copperleaf Assisted Living in Weston, Wisconsin.
She was born on January 6, 1931, in Chicago, IL to the late Edward A. and Lillian G. (Knaak) Bishop. She grew up in a very large family during the depression. She attended school in Markham, IL. To earn money to help support the large family, she cleaned houses, babysat, and worked as a waitress in Chicago. Her family moved to Edgar, WI where she worked at the Edgar Basket Factory where she made laundry baskets by hand. She also worked as a Dietitian at St. Mary’s Hospital in Wausau. Rita met Norman Seymour at a dance at Colonial Ballroom and they were married on December 2, 1950 at the Church of the Gesu in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2004.
Rita loved to bowl and participated in numerous bowling leagues, coming very close to achieving a 300 game! She also enjoyed reading and loved to bake. She took pleasure in working in her rose gardens. Additionally, she enjoyed shopping, bird watching and going out to eat with her daughters. Rita especially loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include her children Mike (Diane) Seymour, Ringle, WI; Cindy (Roger) Osterbrink, Edgar, WI; Jean (Adam) Brummer, Weston, WI and Angela (Rick) Tillmann, Cleveland, GA and her sister Anne Bishop and many nieces and nephews. Rita has seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Norman, she was preceded in death by her son Patrick Seymour, son Anthony Seymour and grandson Jason Seymour, six sisters, Frances, Margie, Laura, Marie, Alice, and Patsy and five brothers, Edward, Bob, Tom, John, and Paul in infancy.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at St. Michael Catholic Church (611 Stark St, Wausau, WI 54403). The Rev. Tom Lindner will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Marathon County Humane Society. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
