Rita R. Meyer

Rita R. Meyer, 89, Wausau died Thursday, October 8, 2015 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at the Hospice House, Wausau. She was born August 17, 1926 in Edgar, daughter of the late William and Clara (Losselyong) Ellenbecker. On June 30, 1945 she married Harold "Doc" Meyer at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1994. Rita worked in the maintenance department at Wausau Insurance for many years. She also did house cleaning and business cleaning and was a crossing guard for over 14 years. Some of her favorite pastimes included card playing, cribbage and assisting on many funeral luncheons at Holy Name Catholic Church over the years. Rita was a member of St. Agnes Circle of St. Catherine Council and the National Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Cecelia Court. Survivors include her children, Kathy Strohkirch, Weston, Ken (Pauline) Meyer, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Larry (Ann) Meyer, Wausau and Pam Meyer, Wausau, three grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Walls, Jamie Strohkirch and Michelle (Lee) Montagnino, four great grandchildren, George and Teryn Walls and Hudson and Sebastian Montagnino, one sister, Verna Mroczenski, Edgar and one sister-in-law, Marcy Ellenbecker, Wausau. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings, Elmer, Jerome, Urban and Lawrence Ellenbecker and Sr. Dorinda Ellenbecker, Sr. Dorine Ellenbecker and Lucille Shank and her son-in-law, Terry Strohkirch. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. The Rev. Thomas Huff will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
