Richard "Dickie" W. Hornung Sr.

Richard W. “Dickie” Hornung Sr., 82, Marathon died Thursday, March, 6, 2025 at his home.

He was born in Wausau, son of the late Raymond and Mary T. (Weisner) Hornung Sr.  On June 10, 1967 he married Joyce Ceranski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon.  She survives.

Richard worked at the former SNE in Mosinee, where he retired from in 2004.  Some of his favorite pastimes included cutting firewood, masonry work and having the ability to fix or make almost anything.

Richard served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hornung, Marathon, his children, Richard Hornung Jr., Marathon, Christina (Tim) Hornung, Appleton and Jason Hornung, Mosinee, his granddaughter, Brooklyn Hornung and a step grandson, Cody (Maddi) Leitermann, one sister, Ellen Goetsch, Wausau and his sisters-in-law, Olga Hornung, Mosinee and Sharon Hornung, New Mexico, his brother-in-law, Arnie Skrzpchak, Neshkoro and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Arlene Seubert, Rev. Eugene Hornung, Gordon Hornung, Gladys Busko, Caroline Skrzypchak and Raymond Hornung, Jr., his sister-in-law, Dolores Hornung and his brothers-in-law, LaVerne Seubert, Elroy Busko and Jerry Goetsch; several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon.  The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.  Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for a charity of their choice.

The kids would like to thank mom for being dad's caregiver.
