Richard W. Steffek, 75, Wausau, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
Rich was born January 29, 1938 in Milwaukee, son of the late John and Lydia (Rademacher) Steffek. As an infant he moved with his family to Antigo where he attended grade and high schools. He was very proud of his service in the United States Air Force, especially the two years he was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa. He married Patricia Bruce on January 14, 1961 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Milwaukee. He retired in 1995 after working 33 years for the Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles in Milwaukee, Fond du Lac and finally as supervisor of the Wausau station. Following retirement, Rich worked as a part-time shuttle driver for Brickner's of Wausau.
Having received a kidney transplant 22 years ago, which he nick-named Sidney, organ donation was so important to Rich and Pat that they started a support group for kidney disease and transplant patients.
Among his many interests he enjoyed volunteering at the Grand Theater and fixing things with his MANY beloved tools.
