Richard A. Poeske
86, a former Wausau resident, died Thursday May 2, 2002 at Halquist Memorial Hospice Center, Arlington, Virginia.
He was born April 3, 1916 in Wausau, son of the late Emil and Caroline J. (Stieber) Poeske. On October 26, 1935 he married Eunice Tyrrell in Wausau. She preceded him in death on September 14, 1983.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.
For his entire working career, Richard had been a painting contractor. Beginning with his father's business, Emil Poeske & Son Decorating, Richard later relocated to Oxon Hill, Maryland, where he continued in the trade until the time of his death. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing in several area bands.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Mae (Robert F.) Konkol, Mosinee, a son, John Poeske, Oxon Hill, Maryland, five grandchildren, Roberta Konkol, Belmont, California, Robert J. Konkol, Newburg, Oregon, Marcia Konkol, Luxemburg, Mark (Gladys) Konkol, Renton, Washington, Joan (Michael) Drew, Lothian, Maryland and one great-grandchild, Christian Michael Drew, Lothian, Maryland, three brothers, Rudolph (Lillian) Poeske, Marathon, Norman (Marie) Poeske, Tomahawk, James (Leah) Poeske, Redmond, Oregon, two sisters, Lauretta (Mahlon) Kernin, Tomahawk, Adeline Lerch, Rothschild, and a friend, Sarah Washington, Washington D.C.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard George Poeske and two brothers, Lawrence and Sylvester Poeske.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday May 7, 2002 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Allan Slowiak will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Catholic church, Rothschild or the American Cancer Society.
