Reuben G. Zweck
80, 303 Thomas Hill Road, Edgar, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 18, 1923 in Marathon City, son of the late George and Mina (Holseth) Zweck. On June 15, 1949, he married Germaine Wagner at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. She survives.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Green Bay Packaging, Wausau. Reuben was an active member of St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. In addition to his local volunteer work he also did volunteer work at a mission school in Camden, Mississippi and at Wausau Hospital.
For 38 years, he served on the Edgar Volunteer Fire Department and had been named State Volunteer Firefighter for the Year in 1977. He was named Edgar Citizen of the Year, was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a Red Cross Instructor. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.
A US Army veteran of World War II, Rueben served in the South Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a Life Member and first Chaplain of the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post No. 469, Marathon.
Survivors include his wife, Germaine Zweck, Edgar; his children, Paula (Keith) Langenhahn, Marathon and their children, Matthew, Christopher and Jacob; Jon (Pauline) Zweck, Wausau and their children, Jordan and Justin; Margaret (Dave) McGrath, Janesville; Teresa Stieber, Wausau and her family Marissa and Bradley; Joe Zweck, Madison; Karen (Rick) Patton, Rothschild; a sister, Dolores (Joe) Heindl, Marathon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert and a brother, Norman Zweck.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. Rev. Norman Boneck will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday conducted by members of the American Legion at the Edgar funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church or the Edgar Fire Department.
