Ralph A. Stieber
79, town of Rib Mountain, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Wausau Manor.
He was born October 2, 1930 in Wausau, son of the late Albert P. and Johanna (Obermeier) Stieber. On April 21, 1956, he married Ann Katherine Hana at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wausau with his uncle, the late Rev. Leonard Stieber officiating. She survives.
Ralph was a 1948 graduate of Wausau High School. He participated in many sports, excelling in Golden Gloves Boxing. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during the Korean War from 1948 - 1952. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as a drivers license examiner in Racine and Wausau from 1958 until he retired due to a disability in 1970. Ralph was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, Wausau and a former member of the Wausau Boots and Saddle Club. His love of horses took him to many horse shows, events and competitions throughout his younger years. Watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and the Milwaukee Brewers on TV was a favorite pastime.
Survivors include his wife of almost 54 years, Ann Stieber, Rib Mountain; one sister, Marlys Ptak, Homer Glen, IL; one brother, David (Joan) Stieber, Green Bay; four brothers-in-law, Owen Russell, Ireland, Arthur (Sandy) Hana, Waterford, Adrian Hana Medford and Ed Langteau, Stetsonville; one sister-in-law, Donna Hana, Medford; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends and his Marine Corp "Brothers" further survive.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Russell and Betty Hansen; and one brother, Marvin Stieber.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and doctors of the Aspirus Cancer Center, Aspirus Palliative Care Unit, Wausau Manor and Wausau Family Practice for the excellent and compassionate care given to Ralph with his recent two month battle with cancer. A special thank you also goes out to our family, friends and special neighbors for their support and help, which enabled Ralph to enjoy the comforts of his home until recently.
