Ralph "Chum" Mattson
80, Pulaski, a former Wausau resident, died Friday January 30, 2004 at St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point.
He was born May 5, 1923 in Merrill, son of the late Arthur and Mae (Rhode) Mattson. On April 26, 1947 he married Elizabeth "Betty" McArthur at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. She preceded him in death March 26, 1995.
Chum was a 1941 graduate of Wausau High School and in the early 40's began a lifetime career in the auto business at Rosemurgy Motors, Wausau. He worked at several dealerships in Central Wisconsin including the Fox Valley Auto Auction, Green Bay, where he was currently employed. Apart from his passion for cars, he enjoyed boating, golfing, dancing and pheasant hunting.
Survivors include four daughters, Lynda (Gerry) Mihaljevic, Denver, Beth (Denis) Hinzelin, Pringy, France, Barb (Peter) Shippy, Stevens Point, Laura Mattson, Esmont, Virginia, four grandchildren, Seth and Mandy Shippy, Stevens Point; Patrick Mihaljevic, Denver; Claire Lefevre, France and one great-granddaughter, Chloe'; his beloved friend and companion, Jean Everson, Pulaski, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Mattson.
A Celebration of Life will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday February 3, 2004 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
