Kronenwetter

Phyllis A. Lingford, 98, passed away on Saturday April 4, 2026 while under the care of Compassus Hospice at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter.

She was born on May 3, 1927 in Biron, to the late William and Bessie (Staples) Sherman. Phyllis grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School. In 1946 she married Donald Lingford, who preceded her in death in 2010.

Following their marriage, Donald and Phyllis lived in Milwaukee, before returning to Wisconsin Rapids around 1950. She loved playing piano, and dancing to big band music. After Don’s retirement, they took several road trips around the country. Moving to the Wausau area, they became avid walkers in the local parks, especially Rib Mountain and Marathon Park. They dined often at local restaurants and enjoyed a stroll to The Mint Café after walking in the Mall. 2510 Restaurant was a go to for birthdays and special occasions.

She is survived by daughters Linda Evans, Marshfield, and Kathleen Hagen, Kronenwetter, four grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son John, two brothers and one sister, and son-in-law Gary Evans.

We are so grateful for all the care and kindness she received from everyone at Cedar Creek Manor and Compassus Hospice.

A private family entombment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau at a later date. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. A full obituary can be read at www.petersonkraemer.com.
