Philip J. Knauf Jr.

Philip J. “Butch” Knauf Jr., 76, Marathon died Friday, February 28, 2025 while under the care of St. Croix Hospice at this home.

He was born July 31, 1948 in Wausau, son of the late Philip and Delores (Fischer) Knauf, Sr.

For many years Butch worked at Knauf Brothers Trucking and lastly at Rib Mountain Glass.  Some of his favorite pastimes included golfing, watching any kind of sports and being active at St. Mary Parish, Marathon where he enjoyed working the chicken dinners and helping the children any way he could.  He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his siblings, James (Rose) Knauf and Thomas Knauf, both of Marathon, his brothers-in-law, LaVerne Furger, Marathon and Gerald Klinger, Rhinelander and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Larry, his sisters, Phyllis Klinger and Mary Jane Furger and a niece, Kathleen (Klinger) Maquire.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Noon, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon.  The Rev. Monsignor Joseph Diermeier will preside.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
