Patricia "Trish" M. Newman

Nov 17, 1958 — Jul 11, 2026

Patricia “Trish” Marie Newman, 67, of Wausau, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born on November 17, 1958, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to the late Matthew and Eleanor Skender.

Trish was a very loving and caring warm-hearted woman and loved many things about life. She had health problems for the last 12 years and became wheelchair mobilized for about nine of them. She never let that stop her and made the best of what she could and had to work with to remain happy. She had a lot of memorable events in her 67-year history and a very astounding working career.

She graduated from Tremper High School in Kenosha. While a teenager she worked at Taco Bell, Pizza, Hut, and Villa Decarlo Pizza and Restaurant. During her 20s she continued to work as a cook and pizza maker at the aforementioned restaurants and was also a waitress at 3 Coins downtown restaurant and Sambo’s. Trish met her future husband, John Newman, a neighbor in Kenosha, when they were both 25 years old. Together they moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1985, and they bought property along a trout stream in Ironwood Township. John and Trish remodeled and modernized a 100-year-old cabin that was designated on the historical register in the Ottawa National Forest. She then began working and cooking at White Cap Mountain Ski Hill as a cooking supervisor.

Following her time at the ski hill, Trish went to work at the Grandview County Hospital in Ironwood, Michigan, in the housekeeping and environmental services departments. While at the hospital she took over the position of employee chairperson for the AFL-CIO county employee’s union for all hospital workers. She was proud of the work she did for her fellow coworkers and was able to get many employees reinstated to their jobs from wrongful discharge including backpay compensation. She also attended Gogebic Community College while working at the hospital and received her Legal Business Degree after two years. She graduated with high honors and a 4.0 grade point average.

Upon completion of her schooling, Trish became a paralegal in the local the Ironwood-Bessemer-Wakefield Michigan area working for two attorney’s offices and a property title company. She also was united in marriage to John Newman on July 2, 1994, having a big, beautiful wedding at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. They celebrated with a wonderful reception at the Ironwood Township Hall.

In 2000, they moved to Wausau and purchased a home together. Trish began working at Eastbay in the Investigative Fraud Department for two years and then moved on to Wausau Insurance. She worked there for five years as a customer service representative until they closed. Trish continued for another 10 years with WPS Insurance at the Westwood Center and then for two years with Tri-Care military insurance until her retirement due to health issues.

In addition to her work, Trish enjoyed music and many hobbies. She saw many musicians in concert including: Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Charlie Daniels, George Thorogood, Blondie, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Billy Joel at Lambeau Field, and many others just to name a few. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, artwork, music, rock concerts, country music, boating and fishing on the Great Lakes and inland lakes of Wisconsin, pets, birds and animals in the yard, gardening, plants, travel, vacations, touring sports stadiums, computer games, board games, playing cards, movies, T.V. shows, and going to local county fairs. Trish was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Wausau Woodchucks.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, John Newman; brothers, Matthew “Buzzy” and Michael; sister, Jenny; many nieces and nephews, Jenny, Jamie, Michael, Mitchel, Justin, Kim, Todd, Tammy, and Dawn; and many other family that she truly and dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mary, Kathy, and Charles “Chuck.”
