Otto 'Red' Gust
72, R5060 CTY Hwy H, Edgar, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, January 8,2002.
He was born May 1, 1929 in the Town of Cleveland, son of the late Otto Sr. and Johanna (Hagen) Gust. On September 5, 1953, he married Peggy Schill in Minneapolis, MN and they had 9 hildren. She preceded him in death on January 22, 1976.
He was born at the dawning of the great epression in 1929, and died after the turmoil of the September 11, 2001 attacks. In his lifetime he armed, drove truck, logged, tapped maple syrup and laid brick and block. He was known for his love of trees, gardens, card playing and family. He was a loving, devoted and generous father, grandfather and brother, as well as a thoughtful neighbor to those who lived about him.
He filled the chapters of our lives with history, humor and love. We are grateful for the many family moments we were able to share with him in his life time. They are treasures we inherit and will keep close to our hearts.
Survivors include his children, Barb (Wayne)Hall, Marathon, Debi (Martinus)Boerema, Ojai, CA, Mary (Kenneth) Knetter, Edgar, Allan (Anne Marie Swanson)Gust, Chippewa Falls, Robert (Ann) Gust, Michael (Melissa) Gust and Terry Gust all of Edgar; 15 grandchildren, Chris & Scott Hall, Nicole, Wendy,Stephanie, Joshua & Jordan Knetter, Heidi, Mary Ann, Hayley and David Lemmer,Sandy (Bill) Lewens, Reid & Wesley Gust and Deserae Hansen; 6 sisters, Goldie Stick, Phoenix, AZ, Marge (Lawrence) Toelle, Stratford, Joyce Engel, Rice Lake, Phyllis (Gordon) Knutson, New Berlin, Edie Achee, Phoenix, AZ and Helen (Alvin) Kratzer, Webster and 2 brothers, William (Irene) Gust, Wausau and Walter (Pat) Gust, Richland Center; sister-in-law, Gertrude Gust, Wisconsin

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 children, Richard & Margie Gust and 1 brother, Edmund Gust.
The funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Edgar. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
There will be a 7:00 p.m. prayer services Friday evening at the Edgar Funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
