Oscar R. Henkel
83, N2476 Martin Drive, Medford, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at his home under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., Rib Lake.
He was born June 6, 1918 in Enderlin, North Dakota, son of the late Wilhem and Emille (Krassin) Henkel and they moved to Medford in 1920. Oscar attended Medford area schools and graduated in 1935.
November 15, 1941, he married Margaret Bergmann in the parsonage at Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church, Athens. She survives.
Oscar served in the US Army during WWII then returning back to Medford in which he owned a milk route. After Oscar sold the milk route, he went to work for the Harvey Company, Medford that later became Weather-Shield until retiring in 1980. Oscar was the Town Supervisor for Goodrich for many years and was a member of Christ United Church, Athens. He enjoyed spending time at their cottage, camping with his family, hunting, fishing and traveling.
Survivors besides his wife, Margaret; includes two daughters, Linda (Harvey) Pelot, Wisconsin Rapids and Laurie (Dale) Goessl, Vesper; two sons, Russell (Ann) Henkel, Town of Goodrich and Gary Henkel, Medford; six grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Bagel, Milwaukee and one brother, Siegfried Henkel, Minong.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Mowery and Renata Sutton and two brothers, Reginald and Erik Henkel.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Christ United Church, Athens. Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. Burial will be in Athens Village Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemre Funeral Home, Athens and again from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
There will be military memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Athens funeral home conducted by the Athens VFW Andrew J. Sutter Post #8527.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may sent to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Inc.,
Rib Lake.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Erick and Raymond Henkel, Scott Pelot and Gregory Henkel and his friend, Larry Perroidin and Henry Faber. Honorary pallbearers will be his two granddaughters, Pamela Pelot and Christal Henkel.
