Orval Dye, 59, 2309 Weston Avenue, Schofield, died Saturday, July 6, 2002 at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
Orval was born Sunday, October 11, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa, son of Orval O. and Connie M. (Erickson) Dye, Sioux City, Iowa.
Orval honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. For his valiant service he earned three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, as well as the Army Commendation for Heroism.
Upon his discharge from the military, Orval obtained employment with Sioux Tools in Sioux City, remaining there until 1988, at which time he moved to Wausau where he worked for Marathon Electric. In 1997 he became a self-employed craftsman and also worked for Sears.
An avid woodworker, Orval also enjoyed golf, bowling and playing pool. He was a Little League umpire for several years, and remained an active volunteer with Junior Achievement.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one son; Travis J. Dye (Angie Bohle), Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters; Mindy Dye, Rockford, Illinois, Kortney Dye (Chris Brunsvold), Cedar Falls, Iowa; one brother; John (Mary) Dye, Sioux City, Iowa; one sister; Susan Castellano, Oceanside, California.
Memorial Services will be 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Friends may call from 5 p.m., Tuesday until the time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, Sioux City, Iowa. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa, with Military Honors Graveside Rites by the Iowa Army National Guard.
The Pallbearers for the service were Brian Dye, Ted Schroeder, Lee Schroeder, Rusty Schroeder, Bob Leinert and Jeff Welch.
